Resources available at the library:

Print Materials
The Library holds approximately 100,000 volumes in several collections: Main Circulating (Fiction & Non-Fiction), Reference, Children's, Young Adult, Biography, Mystery, Science Fiction, and Short Story.  The Library also has a collection of Large Print materials.  Periodicals (newspapers and magazines) are located in the Reference Room.  Use the Library Catalog to search our print material holdings (books & periodicals), to get call numbers, and to see if items are on the shelf or checked out.

Electronic Databases
The Library subscribes to a number of databases for easy electronic access to thousands of newspapers, magazines, and journals.  Many provide coverage back 10+ years and full-text access is provided in several of these resources.  Click here to see our List of Databases.

Public Computers & Printing
Computers are located in the Adult Room, outside of the YA Room, in the Reference Room and in the Children's Room for access to the Internet, including the library catalog, subscription databases, and the World Wide Web.  Word processing is also available on all of these computers. Computers in the Children's Room and four computers outside of the YA Room are running on a Linux-based operating system. Mozilla Firefox is the web browser and OpenOffice.org 3 software is available for word processing. All other computers are running on a Windows XP operating system. Internet Explorer is the web browser and Microsoft Office is available for word processing. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access is accessible in Microsoft Office.

Black & white printing and color printing are available. Patrons may print 10 black & white pages for free per day. Pages thereafter are 10 cents each. Color copies are 25 cents each. Letter size paper is the only type of paper available for printing. Patrons may not bring in special paper to insert into the public printers. Please be advised that patrons printing from the computers in the Children's Room are restricted to printing only 10 black & white printouts per day. Patrons are responsible for all pages printed. Pages printed in error are not the responsibility of the library. Patrons are therefore encouraged to use the print preview function when possible.

Access to the public computers is gained by scanning a Sayreville Library Card at a sign-up station adjacent to the sets of computers in each area. It is important that all Sayreville residents bring their library card for computer access. Sayreville residents that do not have a library card will need to sign up for a library card at the Circulation Desk. Sayreville residents that have lost or forgotten their library cards will either need to locate their card, or pay $3.00 for a new card to gain access. Non-residents may get a guest pass at the Circulation Desk by presenting a driver's license or similar form of ID with a name and address. Keys, credit cards and other valuables will not be accepted as a substitute for proper ID.

Patrons get four, 1/2 hour sessions per day totaling 2 hours per day.  Consecutive sessions are not guaranteed due to the high demand for public computers. Patrons may only temporarily save documents and files to a public computer within the parameter of a 1/2 hour session. Once the session comes to an end, the library cannot guarantee that any documents or files saved will remain on the computer. The public computer system in place purges all user data at the end of each patron's session to protect the privacy of each patron. It is the patrons' responsibility to save their work on a floppy drive, flash drive, or CD drive. Floppy drives and flash drives are available for purchase at the Circulation Desk.
